The Best Ad Ever
The Best Ad Ever

Today, while surfing IGN.com for serious professional reasons, I made an important discovery: the best advertisement ever. Despite the fact that it’s a bit old, I think it’s important that we here at Intergalactic Post Advertising HQ give this ad a post because it’s unlikely that we will encounter another ad this fantastic. "But how amazing could a lowly web ad be?" you might ask.

Well let’s see: it’s intrusive. It makes loud noises. It even plays music. It covers up content while it plays, ensuring that it gets noticed. It’s downright hilarious(ly puerile). Oh, and did I mention that it’s made with Flash, guaranteeing that it slows my aging Powerbook to a crawl?

So congratulations, EA Games and Grupo W Projects: you have created The Best Ad Ever.

Apparently dissatisfied with the standard web ad, EA Games felt that "Battlefield: Bad Company" needed something new. Something exciting. Something innovative. It needed something that would take over the whole damned page. What "Battlefield: Bad Company" needed was the advertising equivalent of every fratboy turned I-Banker to ever prowl the mean streets of the Meatpacking District. What "Battlefield: Bad Company" needed was a Flash ad.

But would any Flash ad do? No, dear readers, it would not. The average Flash ad could never get the attention of an 18-24 year old. What EA Games needed was noise. They needed gunshots. Screaming. Explosions, even.  And what did they need to top off this symphony of sonic agony? Music fit for an amateur dance-music producer with a pirated copy of Fruityloops Studio.

All of these innovative ideas couldn’t be contained in one ad, however. No, in order to really hit the 18-24 demographic in the wallet, EA would need three ads. Only then could EA Games get the 18-24 year old male’s attention. Why three, you ask? Why not two, or four, or even just one ad? Well, it’s simple, really. Only three things can get a young male’s attention, and EA knows this. Hence, the ads feature the trinity of intelligent advertising: boobs, cash and more boobs.

I can think of no better advertisement. God bless you, EA Games and Grupo W Projects. Truly, you are kings among ad-men.
