Millions of people around the globe do not have consistent access to potable drinking water, says Nakheel, the Dubai real estate development company that is famous for building islands off the coast of the desert city and dotting them with McMansions. This Ramadan, join Nakheel in pretending to give a shit.
It's hard to slam anything that seems to want to do good in the world. But I'll give it a go.
Nakheel builds islands off the coast of Dubai and then builds super-lux accommodations on those islands. In a video spot on the Nakheel site advertising the new Trump apartment building in Dubai, a man is shown getting out of his private jet and into a sports car. One man, one private jet, one sports car. Question: How much wealth does that translate into in terms of potable drinking water?
Nakheel has absolutely no authority to talk about potable drinking water for the world's poor when its own existence is predicated on some very few elites having much more than everyone else. Still, if you are able to and have the capacity, go here to make a donation. OR, you can go here and make a donation to Water Neutral, an organization whose stated mission is to target "socially responsible individuals, corporations and
organisations keen to contribute to the global water challenge that
humanity faces, in particular those in water scarce regions," which is vastly different from an organization whose mission is to build massive houses for rich people and, ultimately, make a buck doing it. (Via)
