Carnival Cruise Lines Rebrands With World Record-Breaking Events in Dallas and Philly

I love long headlines. They preclude me needing to write much more. And my fingers ache so. But this headline deserves a bit of explanation. Carnival Cruise Lines, I'm told by said cruise line's PR, is "rebranding" by throwing two massive parties, one with the biggest beach balls ever and one with the biggest piñata ever. First, let's watch:

That was this past weekend in Dallas. This coming weekend in Philly: A massive piñata. (Is it wise for Carnival to invite Philadelphians to engage in public violence during a week when one of the city's sports teams is in a championship series? If the Phillies win the world series, there is a chance of rioting. If they lose, rioting is guaranteed.)

I'm totally cool with these events. The beach ball thing looked fun. But, how is Carnival "rebranding" with this. I think getting famous by building the largest beach balls in the world and the biggest piñata in the world is squarely within Carnival's authority to publish. It's not a rebranding, it's just doing what they do, but on land: party, high-seas style. (Perhaps the company is rebranding as a cheesy, land-locked party-promotion company?) With that said, Carnival, if you come to New York City, how about the biggest seafood buffet ever? Click here for more info/photos.
