Every Kind of Athlete Stumps for Guitar Hero World Tour
Every Kind of Athlete Stumps for Guitar Hero World Tour

Rare is the occasion when professional athletes are taken out of their element—off the court, out of the pool, say—that they look as good or perform as well as when they are doing what they do best. This commercial for Guitar Hero World Tour (a.k.a. Ersatz Rock Band), featuring Kobe Bryant, Tony Hawk, Michael Phelps and Alex Rodriguez, is no exception. Roll tape:

Bryant makes a decent effort at acting and Hawk is a video game commercial vet, but the other two need to stick to humping for car dealerships or, in Phelps' case, stay with commercials where he doesn't have to talk:

With the exception of Hawk, who has a legitimate connection to music and video games, MTV has no authority to publish here. What do Kobe, A-Rod, and especially an uber-awkward Phelps have to do with Guitar Hero? This is purely a case of celebrity logo slapping.

I really enjoy watching these people act - however if Phelps wants to continue to appear on television he should consider spending some of his olympic gold booty on having his jaw broken and reset. That way I could at least look at him and not cringe every time he speaks.

Being a member of the nouveau rich does not make you a member of the actors guild - it only places you high in the running for a reality television show.
