Were the “Most Interactive Oscars” the Worst Oscars?

As expected, yesterday’s Academy Awards were about movies, celebrities, and red carpet style. But more than ever in its 83-year run, the annual ceremony put social media center stage. Behind-the-scenes websites, apps, and real-time commentary were designed to make these Oscars the most interactive yet. The big idea: Double your screens, double your fun. Great in theory, but with the apps and tools we used, we found our fun severely diminished.

Shoot this Bear. Or Dance with this Bear. Whatever.

What do office supplies, chicken sandwiches, and body wash have in common? They’ve all jumped on the interactive ad platform, of course! Bic, being the newest member of the engaged set, now holds hands with the likes of Old Spice and Burger King after producing a knock-out video series in the latest tradition of interactive storytelling. For the groundbreaking page, they chose — drumroll, please — Tipp-Ex® Whiteout to be the star of the show!  ...Uh, what?

It’s better on the blog

A colleague of mine, Nick, fell off his bike on a busy road the other day. Naturally, I asked him how he was and what happened. He referred me to his blog. As we were stood next to each other and already engaged in conversation, I suggested he just told me what happened using the standard biological interfaces. He declined, informing me it was "better on the blog".
